Bench Welding

At LTD Material, bench welding is a critical process in the precision fabrication of quartz components. Similar in principle to TIG or oxyacetylene welding for metals, our process involves feeding a rod of pure fused quartz into a molten weld pool—formed and controlled using a hand-held, high-temperature torch.

High-Purity Flame Chemistry

For semiconductor and other contamination-sensitive applications, purity matters. We use a flame generated from ultrapure hydrogen and oxygen, producing only water vapor as a byproduct. This ensures:

  • Minimal risk of contamination
  • Strong, clean welds with excellent transparency
  • Integrity in high-temperature and high-vacuum environments

To maintain purity and precision, we even design and manufacture our own torches in-house using high-purity materials specifically selected for quartz work.

Decades of Expertise, One Weld at a Time

Our bench welding team includes master glassblowers with 15 to 35 years of experience, each trained through our intensive in-house program. New team members undergo years of supervised training and apprenticeship before advancing to independent work.

This dedication to skill development ensures every weld meets the structural, dimensional, and visual quality required by the industries we serve.
